Upon completion of the CPHIT program, individuals will be able to:

  • Appreciate the scope and complexity of today's healthcare environment and use of information technology, use appropriate change management strategies, and recognize legal and regulatory opportunities and constraints to gain adoption of and hence meet the goals for HIT, HIE and EHR.
  • Apply the concept of a migration path to continuously manage the data-information-knowledge continuum in ultimately achieving full functionality of a comprehensive HIT, HIE and EHR system.
  • Continuously monitor the environment for emerging technologies to complement the migration path toward enhanced use of HIT and achievement of the EHR.
  • Be prepared to assume a leadership role in planning and managing EHR system selection and implementation.
  • Understand the need for, and be able to document and measure realization of a benefits portfolio that ensures appropriate return on HIT investment.

  • Apply the concept of a migration path to continuously manage the data-information-knowledge continuum in ultimately achieving full functionality of a comprehensive HIT, HIE, and EHR system.
  • Assume a leadership role in managing the quality of data in the EHR, using information from EHR and personal health records (PHR) to support care coordination, and creating knowledge for clinical decision support.
  • Appreciate special considerations for development and adoption of computerized provider order entry (CPOE), bar code medication administration record (BC-MAR), e-prescribing, and other technologies to support medication management for patient safety.
  • Continuously monitor and participate effectively in standards development efforts to achieve the appropriate level of interoperability required to support provider, personal, and population health information requirements.
  • Appropriately apply electronic document/content management (ED/CM) system technologies to transition to and complement an EHR.
Upon completion of the CPHIE program, individuals will have the ability to:
  • Appreciate the scope and complexity of today's healthcare environment and use of information technology, use appropriate change management strategies, and recognize legal and regulatory opportunities and constraints to gain adoption of and hence meet the goals for HIT, HIE and EHR.
