Student/Faculty Qualifications and Education Program Qualifications

This program is available to students who have recently taken or are taking a minimum of 12 college or university credits, or a minimum of 200 contact hours in a workforce development program in Health Information Technology, Medical or Health Informatics, Health Information Management, or Healthcare Administration with an emphasis on information technology. Students must be currently enrolled (whether you have begun coursework or not) or have completed a program within the past 12 months. Any community college, undergraduate program, graduate program, or certificate program at an institution of higher learning offering such coursework is a qualified program. Faculty currently teaching in these programs are also eligible for the student discount.

Purpose in Achieving a Nationally Recognized Certification

Many individuals are being trained to enter the health IT workforce. The credentials offered by Health IT Certification are a visible means to distinguish individuals in the marketplace as someone with the theoretical training and practical exposure to the broad range of issues associated with implementing and making meaningful use of health IT. Three professional certifications are offered to address specific needs in the health care industry. With over 1,000 persons already holding the CPHIT, CPEHR, and/or CPHIE credentials from Health IT Certification, individuals join a growing number of those recognized by employers and peers in the marketplace with mastery of a comprehensive body of knowledge in health IT. For example, individuals who hold the CPHIT designation can display it after their name, such as:

If you are in training, preparing for training, or have recently completed training, you are urged to review the Health IT Certification body of knowledge (www.healthitcertification.com) and:

  • Take all or selected courses from the offerings to supplement your training program and take the certification exam of interest to you, or
  • Take the certification exam applicable to the material in your training program

Pricing

The educational discount price allows for taking any number of online training courses and/or the professional certification in one or more of the following tracks:

  • Certified Professional in Health Information Technology (CPHIT) - for those generally focusing on EHR and HIT for planning, selection, and initial implementation.
  • Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR) - for those focusing on advancing the use, including meaningful use, of EHRs that are already implemented.
  • Certified Professional in Health Information Exchange (CPHIE) - for those establishing and managing Health Information Exchanges.

Each track consist of ten courses (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours each) and a professional certification examination online.

Qualified students are entitled to access any or all of the courses in each track at the special student price of $595.00 (regular price is $1,495.00). Pricing is subject to change without notice. Individuals who access this student discount and are not qualified students participating in a qualified educational program will have their access denied or certification revoked, as applicable, without refund.

    • RWMHI - Masters of Health Information Administration

Students from other colleges and universities are required to supply their school's name and contact information for the educational program attended to qualify for the discount.
